Alien - A foreigner that is not an American citizen.

Beneficiary - It is the name in the petition in the applicant for a visa with the Department of Homeland Security.

Change Status - The change from one nonimmigrant visa status to a different nonimmigrant visa status from the visa holder to the Department of Homeland Security.

Domicile - The actual place of a person's primary residence. The immigrant must validate their domicile in America before the visa may be issued.

Exchange Visitor - A foreign citizen participate in a particular programs in education, research or training with in the United States. The approval applicant will be issued a J visa.

Green Card - A validation card showing that the person has a lawful permanent resident status in the United States.

Immigrant Visa - A type of visa for a person who will live indefinitely in the United States.

Jurisdiction - Territory or region where the law can be enforce.

Lottery - A computer program that randomly draws individuals for the right to file for immigration in America. Preference

Immigration - A system for determining whom can immigrate to America through limits set by Congress on immigration.

Returning Residents - United States permanent residents who have been living abroad pass one year and want to return to the states.

Refugee - An individual who has fear of death or persecution if they should return to their home country.

Upgrade a Petition - Once you become an American citizen you may want the INS to change the petitions filed for family members after you are a lawful permanent resident.

Visa - Is a permit for an individual to have permission to enter the United States.

Visa Validity - The visa is valid from the date issued until the date it expires.
